Transcript of the 2009 meeting of the Educause Virtual Worlds Constituent Group

In Denver CO, Second Life:

Educause-Mtg_006

and the "Cosmic Gallery" of the Heritage Key Virtual Tut Experience:

The panelists

Iggy's Note: the lengths of the transcripts and the unique setting (two virtual worlds and Denver) made for an interesting experience. Given the need to provide a timely document, I will not pull out URLs to the front as I often do.

Thanks to Olivia and ponderosafish for the photos from SL. I nabbed the Heritage Key ones, and our collection can be found at Olivia's SLER group at Flickr. Thanks to Stargazer for moderating the SL discussion and Scott for moderating in Heritage Key.

Second Life Session:

Stargazer Blazer: AJ is talking to welcome everyone and said there is a 12-30 second delay.

Stargazer Blazer: This first part is fascinating and fun, but first and foremost, a meeting of the Virtual Worlds Constituents Group.

Olivia Hotshot: If you want to ask a question please IM me.

Fleep Tuque: Thanks Olivia. :)

Stargazer Blazer: Some of us here in SL are members, some may be considering joining the group, or Educause.

Olivia Hotshot: Welcome, Fleep.

Fleep Tuque: It's really nice to just attend this year and not be one of the ones stressed out running it. heh. ;)

Lolly Dovgal: I'm impressed.

Olivia Hotshot: =)

Robin Mochi: yes

Fleep Tuque: Isn't it great? :)

Philled Graves is Offline

Stargazer Blazer: For the folks in SL, one doesn't need to be a member of Educause to join the listserv

Lolly Dovgal: This really is a nice way to feel included at the meeting.

Oronoque Westland: AJ has a real world ALT lol

Stargazer Blazer: I didn't get the URL.

Stargazer Blazer: Perhaps someone can post that.

Esparanza Freese: please type the URL

Fletcher Pinion: http://www.educause.edu/groups/VW

Fleep Tuque: Thanks Fletch!

Lolly Dovgal: Camera operator, please slow down your movements.

Stargazer Blazer: For those of you who are on the listserv, I will also be sending a note to the list, you get a welcome message; that can be customized.

Stargazer Blazer: We should talk as a group,, about how that might be customized.

Stargazer Blazer: If anyone has any suggestions about how we might change the welcome and make it better/different/ please let AJ know.

Stargazer Blazer: There are several regional leaders present. Great to see so many of you here.

Computer Jewell: if video stops press play again

Stargazer Blazer: It's a testament to Educause that you are all here. We had meetings at all of the regional meetings, save for the Western one.

Stargazer Blazer: IF you would like to be a part of the regional ones, let him know. He's listing a bunch of the meetings coming up, no way to catch up with im.

Stargazer Blazer: Dieter coordinated in Australia.

Stargazer Blazer: We have a global reach for all of this.

job Stromfield: i'm from morocco

Stargazer Blazer: ELI: Educause Learning Initiative in Austin this year.

job Stromfield: and glad to be here

Stargazer Blazer: If you would like to participate in ELI, please let AJ know.

Stargazer Blazer: Learning Environments for a Web 2.0 World is the theme for this year's meeting.

Stargazer Blazer: Aside from the F2F meetings that we do, we also have Adobe Connect rooms available through Educause.

Stargazer Blazer: We have a built-in way to meet (in SL), however, some may not be ready to come in world yet, so we can entertain the interest of those to have an Adobe Connect meeting.

Stargazer Blazer: My goal here...

Olivia Hotshot: We can see.

Stargazer Blazer: If you can't see, there is a full room.

Purdue Aeon: Live audio is too bad, I'm bailing, sorry

Olivia Hotshot: 41 in SL

Zotarah Shepherd: All the fields and backgrounds of messages are black . I have to relog.

Jackie Rexen: yes

Birdie Newcomb: heard of it, not sure what it is

Zotarah Shepherd: I only heard of Educause here

Stargazer Blazer: How many people here have never heard of Educause before today's meeting, or before the Educause Virtual WorldsConstituents group? Say no.

Stargazer Blazer: Couple of people haven't.

job Stromfield: havent heard before

Olivia Hotshot: Yes, can hear.

Abacus Capalini: @ Zotarah heard of Educause in SL first as well. :)

Stargazer Blazer: I'd like to talk about the future of Virtual Worlds in education.

Stargazer Blazer: Heritage Key is in Open Sim,

Birdie Newcomb: what are we seeing?

Stargazer Blazer: From where I am seeing this, we are on a cusp of this trough, after a bang, now Gartner and others might say we are in the trough.

Olivia Hotshot: Heritage Key

Abacus Capalini: Yes!!! had to have that fight with admins and IT

Pausanius Raymaker: is there a video stream URL?

Fletcher Pinion: the age limit is still a show stopper for us - we have 16yo students

Stargazer Blazer: We are getting beyond the initial impressions, to get beyond the initial impressions.

Abacus Capalini: What could you possibly use a virtual world for? You teach accounting. lol

Stargazer Blazer: Project Wonderland lets you work in real time with Word documents, it's more of a business platform, but it is a virtual world...

Olivia Hotshot: Abacus - run a virtual business maybe?

Stargazer Blazer: Open Sim includes the Heritage Key sim.

Abacus Capalini: lol exactly. :)

Abacus Capalini: @Olivia :-) exactly

Stargazer Blazer: dr_manhattan is the Reaction Grid tag (I think)

Stargazer Blazer: We are starting to see more viable alternatives

Abacus Capalini: Ernst & Young built a warehouse so train new employees how to audit!

Stargazer Blazer: so that more than one person in one department can use it.

Olivia Hotshot: Dr_Manhattan is the correct Twitter name

Stargazer Blazer: Are there going to be technical problems? Heck yea

Abacus Capalini: Biggest Tech issue: graphics cards and memory

Fletcher Pinion: http://twitter.com/Dr_Manhattan

Stargazer Blazer: We had technical problems....

Arielion Clawtooth: @Abucus We're being asked not to type into the local chat (Even though I believe this is wrong since that's the idea of being in SL to have the backchannel)

Stargazer Blazer: Heritage Key is becoming a viable alternative... content creation is differnet there from SL in what it looks like.

Exosius Woolley: ha ha "technical >skrkkk< " is what I heard

Abacus Capalini: Tech issue: That is what the support page on www.secondlife.com is for. :)

Stargazer Blazer: It might be a good location to show the possibilities.

Gwenette Writer: content creation for residents??

Birdie Newcomb: This sound is giving me a headache.

Abacus Capalini: I hear a cell phone in the audience. :) Good mic AJ.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: btw, I'm at HK now, but you can see the video stream at: rtsp://qss.clemson.edu/Suzie.sdp

Stargazer Blazer: what is the one thing you will find in Heritage Key but not in SL?

Computer Jewell: rtsp://qss.clemson.edu/Suzie.sdp is the Quicktime video stream address, but this is video only w/out audio

Exosius Woolley: Me too

Computer Jewell: Hosted by Clemson University

Stargazer Blazer: SL has a lot of content. We are not seeing this yet in the other virtual worlds.

Rachelle Munro: yes, the content creation is web 2.0

Fletcher Pinion: audio getting noiser

Stargazer Blazer: There have been issues in the past about picking pu and moving a sim from one vw to another

Exosius Woolley: is someone using a power saw in that room?

Stargazer Blazer: The rationale behind that is that some of the activities in SL require students to do stuff outside of SL.

Exosius Woolley: Can the mic be set no closer

Stargazer Blazer: In order for VWs to succeed, they need to be portable, (AJ's opinion)

Lolly Dovgal: Turn volume way down low.

Stargazer Blazer: It will make it a viable usable platform

Exosius Woolley: We hear the lady at the computer clearly each time she mumbles but the speaker cannot be understood

Gwenette Writer: yes

Abacus Capalini: But Do we want an identity to cross worlds?

educause_006

Abacus Capalini: I have. :)

Stargazer Blazer: How many have taught classes in SL?

Gwenette Writer: i have

Zotarah Shepherd: I have taught a few

Esparanza Freese: I teach a graduate course here

Fleep Tuque: Many classes. :)

Stargazer Blazer: I'm going to stop talking quite so much and say that we do these things on an onsite location.

Robin Mochi: I have and am

Zotarah Shepherd: Not credit classes yet, but soon I hope.

Stargazer Blazer: the quiet ones here might react in chat.

Stargazer Blazer: Questions, answers, reactions

Stargazer Blazer: the topic we picked is that there are three themes for next year

Abacus Capalini: In SL, students and visitors can't hide. We have a record of your contributions. :)

Stargazer Blazer: 1. Learning Environments

Stargazer Blazer: 2. Fostering Student Engagement

Stargazer Blazer: I missed the first one, the audio is getting bad.

Stargazer Blazer: SL isn't going to go away.

Claudia13 Rossini: hi AJ

Stargazer Blazer: SL is the AOL of virtual worlds

Claudia13 Rossini: Yahoo

Stargazer Blazer: He sees it as a major content provider, market share, etc.

Gwenette Writer: afk for a few folks:)

Stargazer Blazer: the way we connected at first to the Internet was by AOL, used to be giant, and now is still around.

Stargazer Blazer: AJ sees this happening with VWs as well.

Stargazer Blazer: SL is the giant.

Stargazer Blazer: VWs will become unimportant, or will explode.

Stargazer Blazer: Part of my job is to play around with emerging technology, what is out there, etc. Get to play with SL for my job.

Stargazer Blazer: I am going to stop talking as much

Olivia Hotshot: if anyone has a question - IM ME

Stargazer Blazer: any comments, questions in RL?

Stargazer Blazer: Cannot hear the person in the room; chopping up.

Olivia Hotshot: DO NOT start talking.

Exosius Woolley: Can you tell us eveythinghe said for the last 20 min?

Olivia Hotshot: There will be a transcript Exosius.

Stargazer Blazer: sure, scroll up

Stargazer Blazer: I cannot hear what this man is saying

Stargazer Blazer: The audio is going in and out.

Olivia Hotshot: Please know i am in IM doing the tech. We know the sound is in and out.

Stargazer Blazer: there have been some major issues in TX.

Stargazer Blazer: Thanks, I just wanted to explain why it's not being transcribed.

Olivia Hotshot: They are changing the battery on the mic - please hang a sec

cyber Placebo: :-)

Claudia13 Rossini: lol

Stargazer Blazer: the battery on the mic is being changed.

Abacus Capalini: TECH HAPPENS :)

cyber Placebo: @abacus or doesn't

Fletcher Pinion: what were the major issues in TX?

Zotarah Shepherd: It would help the media, if the camera did not move around so fast or so much.

Exosius Woolley: This audio quality is intolerable.

Stargazer Blazer: Not really.

Stargazer Blazer: Sl just put out their latest quarter stats.

Stargazer Blazer: Avatar time online was down

Stargazer Blazer: Everything else was up

Stargazer Blazer: 150 million dollars spent last quarter

Stargazer Blazer: Some people might argue open sim will run this sort of stuff

Stargazer Blazer: with programmers and stuff; this is an argument he's heard.

Olivia Hotshot: IF ANYONE HAS A QUESTION, PLEASE IM ME.

Arielion Clawtooth: My IM isn't working Olivia. My question is whether it is cost-effective to hire a contractor to do the building in SL or is it more cost-effective to have it done by staff & faculty?

Stargazer Blazer: I missed the question.

Stargazer Blazer: there is no audio

Olivia Hotshot: PLEASE RESTATE QUESTION AJ.

Zotarah Shepherd: Media lag is usual.

Stargazer Blazer: is it possible to use VW and these analogies to the web; before you draw an analogy fully... run the servers for you and maintain your avatar across VWs...

Robin Mochi: must run to 1st life meeting, thanks all :)

Stargazer Blazer: Scott from Univ. of Arkansas

Zotarah Shepherd: You do not have access to the rich content others have built in SL in OpenSim, so SL continue to thrive.

Stargazer Blazer: Based on open sim, we have two universities and sims.

Stargazer Blazer: We will be able to plug into lots of ideas.

Claudia13 Rossini: <----builder

Fletcher Pinion: instructional designer

Stargazer Blazer: Iggy asks: How many are faculty in the FL room, instructional designers, builders

Abacus Capalini: Director / Faculty

Stargazer Blazer: what will it take to have faculty Try a VW in a class?

cyber Placebo: what it takes is a redesign of course outline and do faculty have the time to do so>

Stargazer Blazer: Erika: very heard to hear

Exosius Woolley: We cannot hear!

cyber Placebo: + the tech support behind?

Atomica Sands: <-erica

Atomica Sands: i said that the graphics are too bad for students to have interest

Stargazer Blazer: What did you say, we couldn't hear in here.

Stargazer Blazer: Ah, thanks

Fleep Tuque: These things are always spotty but I appreciate the efforts of those on the ground.

Atomica Sands: and that the learning curve is too much for faculty to deal with

Atomica Sands: students want WoW and XBOX live, not SL

Stargazer Blazer: Right

Fleep Tuque: It depends on the student.

Atomica Sands: until gaming companies start making high end educational games it's going to be difficult to retain their interest

cyber Placebo: @atomica exactly GenY need a goal and structure

Abacus Capalini: How is SL different from faculty having to learn a new LMS? Similar Barriers.

cyber Placebo: GenX are happy to explore without structure

Atomica Sands: SL is much harder to learn than CMS/LMS imo

Arielion Clawtooth: @cyber I think it's just the opposite

Fleep Tuque: I a very resistant to using broad generational labels

Exosius Woolley: Good bye, I ho0pe you get your sound problems fixed for next time

Fleep Tuque: I think they can be very misleading

Atomica Sands: just speaking from my experience with higher ed faculty, and with HS and college students

Arielion Clawtooth: Discussions on the SLED list infer that it's because it is not directed students do not enjoy SL as much as WoW, etc.

cyber Placebo: @aerielion in games they have a structure to work through

Oronoque Westland: we expect our students to learn new things all the time, if we are unwilling to learn we are not being very good models

Abacus Capalini: @ Fleep agree. Generational labels do not apply.

Claudia13 Rossini: excellent point Oronoque!

cyber Placebo: WOW have strict rules and goals that is why GenY love it

Olivia Hotshot: FEEL FREE TO ADD TO ANSWERS IN TEXT CHAT.

Zotarah Shepherd: Next time it would help if the transcribers were also there live if audio problems persist.

cyber Placebo: they are led to do stuff

Arielion Clawtooth: Wcyber That's what I'm saying. They miss that in SL.

Stargazer Blazer: 2:00 SLT Education Roundtable meets here.

Olivia Hotshot: 2:30 SLT.

Educause-Mtg_005

Fleep Tuque: I am not GenY and love WoW too ;)

cyber Placebo: Sl have none it is free for all and hope for the best

Atomica Sands: my students have really liked MetaPlace

Fleep Tuque: I don't think it's a generational issue as much it is an expectation issue.

cyber Placebo: like it too and am Gen X fleep

Woodrow Winslet: what the hell?

cyber Placebo: but my nephew doubts Sl and is a total addict to WOW

Olivia Hotshot: Woodrow - watch the language please,

Abacus Capalini: I guess I'm genWoW then. lol

Stargazer Blazer: Can one of the people running AJ's avatar please transcribe for us?

Woodrow Winslet: where am i ?

Margaret Michalski: Everyone-Olivia and I are doing the best we can from our remote locations

Margaret Michalski: the problem is in Denver

Woodrow Winslet: wow this is awesome

Stargazer Blazer: the meeting on the 17th 2:30-3:30 SLT has a wide diversity of faculty

cyber Placebo: just taught a 15 hour course to trainee teachers on web2.0

cyber Placebo: with an intro to Sl

Stargazer Blazer: He's plugging his own group meeting.

Stargazer Blazer: But acknowledges there are others.

cyber Placebo: none of them had heard of Sl apart from the usual kinky stuff

Oronoque Westland: and a good mtg it is!

Woodrow Winslet: i am doing a project for school

Fletcher Pinion: cyber - was that a credit course, or prof dev?

Arielion Clawtooth: Are the questions we asked going to be addressed?

Woodrow Winslet: this is perfect for my snapshot

cyber Placebo: basketball and other games

cyber Placebo: most of them were playing online

Woodrow Winslet: and how i could use this in school

Olivia Hotshot: Arielon i am in the queue to ask.

Olivia Hotshot: AJ I AM READY WITH QUESTIONS HERE.

Stargazer Blazer: Joe is using SL and he is going to share his experience

Fleep Tuque: yikes the audio is too much

Woodrow Winslet: sounds better

Woodrow Winslet: good

AJ Brooks: Are you using voice for the questions

Stargazer Blazer: AJ needs to be turned down.

Olivia Hotshot: Arielion Clawtooth:(He says his IM isn't working Olivia. ) My question is whether it is cost-effective to hire a contractor to do the building in SL or is it more cost-effective to have it done by staff & faculty?

Abacus Capalini: and then there was no white noise and it was good. :)

Woodrow Winslet: staff

Woodrow Winslet: and faculty

Zotarah Shepherd: Much better audio with Olivia.

Pausanius Raymaker: ok

AJ Brooks: Please repeat the q?

Olivia Hotshot: Back to you.

Fleep Tuque: It depends on your budget IMO.

Oronoque Westland: Arielion Clawtooth:(He says his IM isn't working Olivia. ) My question is whether it is cost-effective to hire a contractor to do the building in SL or is it more cost-effective to have it done by staff & faculty?

Fleep Tuque: If you don't have one, you have no choice but to use faculty and staff. ;)

Pausanius Raymaker: and time line

Stargazer Blazer: We cannot hear from Denver.

Fletcher Pinion: I'd say the question is what are you building and why?

Oronoque Westland: AJ is typing

AJ Brooks: AJ would like you to restate the q one more time

Fleep Tuque: nod the why point being the most important

Fleep Tuque: What is your goal?

Stargazer Blazer: it's in Chat, can you read it aloud?

AJ Brooks: Yes do them in chat

Fleep Tuque: If you just want to have a digital reproduction of your physical campus so you have pretty eye candy, just hire a designer. ;)

Stargazer Blazer: Arielion Clawtooth:(He says his IM isn't working Olivia. ) My question is whether it is cost-effective to hire a contractor to do the building in SL or is it more cost-effective to have it done by staff & faculty?

Stargazer Blazer: We cannot hear you in Denver

Stargazer Blazer: Please type back in chat with answers.

Atomica Sands: they're trying to figure stuff out

Zotarah Shepherd: Please steady the camera and we will get better video. When you move it it turns to mush.

Olivia Hotshot: Go for it AJ

Fleep Tuque: Oh that's painful

Stargazer Blazer: we cannot hear you in Denver

Olivia Hotshot: we hear you now

Claudia13 Rossini: visual beauty and usable design can be achieved by the right builder

Gwenette Writer: as a developer of a university campus for recruitment and also teaching in non-replica builds . . if faculty builds it is also costly as their time is stretched ; if faculty and students build i recommend visits to already built unis

Fleep Tuque: Someone tell him to move that mic away from his mouth

Stargazer Blazer: It is very distorted

Fleep Tuque: It's waaaaay too hot

Abacus Capalini: My $0.02, it is all about time frame. Short term = Builder/ designer ; Long-term = faculty, staff, & students. :)

cyber Placebo: how about holodecks to reduce build

Gwenette Writer: there are numerous free builds now that are excellent for education

Pausanius Raymaker: depends on your goals

Fleep Tuque: Another option is to find students in your digital design programs especially if you have a co-op program

cyber Placebo: @gwenette indeed

cyber Placebo: get design students to build project?

Oronoque Westland: you can offer student internships

Zotarah Shepherd: If teachers in SL are not also taking students on tours or having them explore they are missing out on a lot.

Fleep Tuque: We've had great success with that model. Faculty and Staff help define the goals and our design students actually do the work. Coops internships work study

Fletcher Pinion: @fleep - and orgs such as educause and OLN can be clearinghouses for them

Fleep Tuque: nod yes

Abacus Capalini: @gwenette Lots of great free stuff and low cost stuff. Shopping gets you better quality these days. :)

Olivia Hotshot: MIRT!!!!

Oronoque Westland: there are a lot of freebies and cheap pre-fabs in SL, unless you want a duplicate of your physical campus

Pavig Lok: in terms of cost effectiveness it depends on how much your staffs time is worth (and if you want them to learn) - for some projects builders work out cheaper

Abacus Capalini: In SL, you can stretch your $... 1$ = $L 260+ :)

Fleep Tuque: hehe

Arielion Clawtooth: Thanks, Mirt. I even heard you. ;o)

Gwenette Writer: NMC has great builds available made for universities but the design of the campus might want to discuss with other unis and builders as a consultant to help you create "flow" in interiors and on the land itself

Zotarah Shepherd: Many builds are editable so you can customize them to suit your project or class.

Fleep Tuque: nod

Fleep Tuque: I'm a big fan of buying and modding. :)

Olivia Hotshot: Excellent point Zo.

Atomica Sands: true and that is nice

Stargazer Blazer: I build a lot but we also hire a builder with professional design skill ( from Denver)

Pausanius Raymaker: this question baffles me--SL is a constructivist environment, you construct your virtual learning environment as the first step

cyber Placebo: Holodecks?

cyber Placebo: small builds cost-effective and time-effective

cyber Placebo: (I am in languages)

Fleep Tuque: I'd argue it is as much connectivist as constructivist. ;)

Arielion Clawtooth: @Fleep Eye candy is evil in SL.

Fleep Tuque: I don't agree actually

Fleep Tuque: I think it depends on the goal. :)

Zotarah Shepherd: Most educational builds in SL are boring and flat. The historical buildings are more interesting.

Pausanius Raymaker: :-) sure, collaboratively constructivist...

Arielion Clawtooth: Too much lag.

Fletcher Pinion: (this from the guy with feathered wings...) :-D

Gwenette Writer: @ Pauy if taht is the learning goals of source yes, but often faculty want to taqch their curriculum with basic skills needed only for themselves and students they do NOT want to learn to build esp something like a full building and a sim landscape

Arielion Clawtooth: Depending on purpose. Yeah, but I'm impermanent, @fletcher

Gwenette Writer: sorry typonese attack ahha

Educause-Mtg_014

cyber Placebo: @gwenette I agree

Stargazer Blazer: Joe is saying [that he was] beta testing in Heritage Key and he chose part of it and made a wiki

Pausanius Raymaker: :-)

cyber Placebo: I can't see anyone for the moment getting involved with SL

Zotarah Shepherd: Put the URL in chat please Iggy ["Saving Isis Project" is http://iggyssyllabus.pbworks.com/Saving-Isis]

Stargazer Blazer: I challenged students to come up with a solution [to the destruction of the Isis mural when Howard Carter exavated Tut's tomb]

cyber Placebo: apart from the techie in the School of design

Abacus Capalini: SL is not Netbook friendly ... yet. :)

Zotarah Shepherd: Many people are already involved in education in SL

Stargazer Blazer: It is the salient question with VW developers need to be able to run on slower connections

Pausanius Raymaker: content specific builds and tools obviously need to be available

Gwenette Writer: def that is a variable to incorporate into build areas

Rachelle Munro: simplistic, but familiar setting makes it easier for Newbie instructors as well as students :)

Stargazer Blazer: so that students will stay on after the class.

Stargazer Blazer: how many students return to Blackboard after the class?

Arielion Clawtooth: @Abacus That was my point about eye candy. Students don't have the bandwidth for it unless it's part of the requirements.

Oronoque Westland: I wouldn't want to return to Bb!

Stargazer Blazer: It's a learning tool... so they leave it once they are done.

Abacus Capalini: Exactly AJ, Bb is not very netbook friendly either. lol

Pausanius Raymaker: embeddd with augmented data it persists

Stargazer Blazer: is there something in SL that they can relate to their RL?

Olivia Hotshot: NEXT QUESTION FROM SL: Are educators more enthused about VE than students might be?

Gwenette Writer: Blackboard has inworld tools for sl classes now developed by ball Stae uni with a grant from blackboard

cyber Placebo: why wouldn't to relate to RL in SL

Pausanius Raymaker: absolutely because it is ard work!

Gwenette Writer: varies ahha

cyber Placebo: the beauty of Sl is to lash out on creativity

Olivia Hotshot: PLEASE IM ME QUESTIONS

Ozma Malibu: I am having students develop a SLoodle presentation on an SL topic, so that bandwidth challenged students in rural Arizona can view the presentation in Moodle

Fleep Tuque: Yes we're testing the Blackboard + Second Life building block now

Claudia13 Rossini: 50/50 depends on the personality of the person behind the av

Pausanius Raymaker: agreeed cyber

cyber Placebo: @ Fleep is there an SL component with BB?

Zotarah Shepherd: Students on the teen grid stick with SL when they transfer to the main grid so the TG educators - like Maggie Marrat - are doing something right to get them interested.

Abacus Capalini: NPIRL - Not Possible In RL :) SL is all about this as well as what is possible in RL. :)
cyber Placebo: heard of sloodle

Olivia Hotshot: Per Fleep - keep in mind we are talking Bb 9 or 10 - NOT Vista.

Gwenette Writer: yes Fleep here is slurl and they offer good support http://slurl.com/secondlife/Ball%20State%20University/136/136/23

Fleep Tuque: Yes, there's a blackboard building block that runs on the Bb side and scripted ojects that run on the SL side

Fleep Tuque: the project is open source

Fleep Tuque: and all th components are free

Gwenette Writer: I was told the sl BB tools work with Vista version of BB

Fleep Tuque: This keyboard is awful, doh.

Abacus Capalini: We did a build for the Tibetan Book of the Dead. So our students could go through the Buddhist rebirth Cycle.

cyber Placebo: where can I find info? Fleep
.
Fleep Tuque: Gwenette just posted the slurl

Rachelle Munro: oftentimes, students want the easy way to an end, and SL has a steeper learning curve than Bb, so an instructor has to lead them down the path to see the real value

cyber Placebo: so cool!

cyber Placebo: tah

Gwenette Writer: see this location: for BB in SL http://slurl.com/secondlife/Ball%20State%20University/136/136/23

Stargazer Blazer: something has to happen that shows there IS more to it.

Abacus Capalini: The students loved it. .. We could not have done this in RL.

Fletcher Pinion: that's the main affordance of a VW - stuff you can't do IRL

Olivia Hotshot: ANY MORE QUESTIONS FROM THE SL AUDIENCE?

Zotarah Shepherd: Yes Fletcher

Abacus Capalini: Sending RL students to bardo would be bad for student retention rates :) ... not ot mention our graduation rates

Stargazer Blazer: Just one: Can they transcribe from Denver? :)

Arielion Clawtooth: @Fletcher Amen!

Olivia Hotshot: 20 people on the SL sim at the moment

Atomica Sands: She's saying it takes just one student to be interested, to make it a success

Fletcher Pinion: The dealbreaker, though, is always the age limit in SL.

Fleep Tuque: I'm afraid I have to run off or a meeting in the physical world, but great to see everyone as always. :)

Gwenette Writer: one mind at a time:)) open 'em up:))

Fletcher Pinion: cya, fleep!

Olivia Hotshot: QUESTION - How many people are on Heritage Key?

Zotarah Shepherd: I keep hearing rumors that the TG separation might change.

Fleep Tuque: Thanks to Olivia and Iggy and AJ and everyone who worked to make this possible. :) wave!

Oronoque Westland: bye Fleep

Pausanius Raymaker: bye Fleep [and many others bid farewell]

Gwenette Writer: have been how nay folks have seen immersiveeducation.org on Reac tionGrid open sim all ages teaching k-H.E. there

cyber Placebo: for those who are teaching on SL would like to know how course redesign they have had to do

Pavig Lok: right now 11 avs are in the HK audience

Olivia Hotshot: Thank you Pavig.

Olivia Hotshot: Getting the Reaction Grid meeting set

Olivia Hotshot: FEB on Reaction Grid

Gwenette Writer: www.reactiongrid.com/

Pausanius Raymaker: Reaction Grid is a great alternative for k-12

Olivia Hotshot: cyber Placebo: : for those who are teaching on SL I would like to know how course redesign they have had to do?

Stargazer Blazer: Any more questions?

Pausanius Raymaker: still redesigning!

Olivia Hotshot: 11 on HK

Olivia Hotshot: cyber Placebo: : for those who are teaching on SL I would like to know how course redesign they have had to do

Olivia Hotshot: That was the last question.

Claudia13 Rossini: how many people in the Denver auditorium?

Gwenette Writer: definitely alksoi for student teachers whith their own classes in sl but their class assignment to use vw in k-12 classes in Reaction Grid

Olivia Hotshot: Question: cyber Placebo: : for those who are teaching on SL I would like to know how much course redesign they have had to do

LittleToe Bartlett: yes

LittleToe Bartlett: no, Pavig and I are in both worlds

Pausanius Raymaker: its an evolving process, but potentially it will be from the bottom up :-)

cyber Placebo: cannot hear

Abacus Capalini: Depends on how you will use SL? It can be a project or it could be the whole class.

Stargazer Blazer: Have to redesign the class...

Ozma Malibu: I am teaching open-entry open-exit (course redesign) and asking students to work in pairs. In RL I would not be asking them to work together necessarily, in an online course. That is the main change.

Abacus Capalini: Whole class .. then lots of redesign.

Olivia Hotshot: Redesign is never simple or quick.

Abacus Capalini: project oriented uses of SL, not much redesign needed.

Stargazer Blazer: I can't hear enough to transcribe, sorry guys, the mic is breaking up pretty bad.

Ozma Malibu: Students can start the course at any time, and finish at any time.

Stargazer Blazer: It's where there is not a semester time frame.

Pausanius Raymaker: as an educator I am redesigning, so the course work does too

Arielion Clawtooth: Asynchronous, basically.

Stargazer Blazer: One of the things I found most impressive... on clinical simulations... can someone be our guest for that?

Atomica Sands: what time is the roundtable on the 17th?

Olivia Hotshot: 2:30 SLT

Gwenette Writer: curious did students and teachers find it time consuming or difficult to gather a tool set to deliver curriculum and share/deliver assignments??

Olivia Hotshot: Every Tuesday at 2:30

Atomica Sands: ty

Stargazer Blazer: An emergency room was set up so students had to go through that simulations.

Stargazer Blazer: One of the best examples was the Canadian Border Crossing simulation

Gwenette Writer: LL did a case study on that program's first year in sl you can see online

Zotarah Shepherd: Yes the video is great.

Stargazer Blazer: When the students did the test, those who did the simulation in SL, there was a 38% difference over two years.

cyber Placebo: kiwi educators do school leavers interviews and it is also working really well

Olivia Hotshot: Ken Hudson - Canadian Border Crossing

Stargazer Blazer: Contact Ken Hudson at Loyalist College about the details.

Gwenette Writer: https://blogs.secondlife.com/community/learninginworld/blog/2009/07/10/case-study-loyalist-college-massively-improves-test-scores-and-training-outcomes-using-second-life

cyber Placebo: job interviews and avatars are a way of distancing themselves for a start

cyber Placebo: fab feedback from students

Olivia Hotshot: We're nearly done folks - any more questions?

Stargazer Blazer: When AJ's talking to someone in the room, we cannot hear them.

Gwenette Writer: many thanks AJ and all the team here for providing this virtual aprticipation for us:)

Atomica Sands: they're talking about other SL sessions at Educause

Stargazer Blazer: Top 10 questions when implementing SL

Stargazer Blazer: is a session there

Gwenette Writer: Top Ten is when??

Abacus Capalini: Will top 10 be in SL?

Atomica Sands: sounds like it, but no one knows where

Stargazer Blazer: Nope, it's in Denver.

Gwenette Writer: you all did a GREAT job:))

Gwenette Writer: The Top Ten is when/where??

Gwenette Writer: in sl at all??

Gwenette Writer: online??

Atomica Sands: ty all, i hope to join a roundtable sometime

Margaret Michalski: Thanks AJ!

Educause-Mtg_016

Zotarah Shepherd: Next time maybe we will send Olivia a ticket to the meeting. Thank you Olivia and Star

Margaret Michalski: Thanks Olivia!

Abacus Capalini: Thanks AJ!! :) Olivia and Fleep.

Claudia13 Rossini: Thanks AJ

Stargazer Blazer: The top 10 questions when implementing SL is a session @ Educause in Denver, not going on in SL.

Abacus Capalini: QQ

Zotarah Shepherd: Yaya Joe!

Margaret Michalski: Thanks AJ, Iggy and Olivia

Gwenette Writer: ahh shucks can we see online at all??

Zotarah Shepherd: Yay Olivia!

Fletcher Pinion: thanks, y'all

Abacus Capalini: lol

Zotarah Shepherd applaudes all the great helpers.

Stargazer Blazer: Thanks

Stargazer Blazer: Hi suzie

Abacus Capalini: Great job all.

Margaret Michalski: Glad to help whenever I can AJ

Gwenette Writer: Aloha nui loa to you all:)_) Thanks AJ:))

Olivia Hotshot: Bye!!

Zotarah Shepherd: Hi Gwenette

cyber Placebo: ka kite ano

Gwenette Writer: Aloha Zotarah:))

Stargazer Blazer: yea

Zotarah Shepherd: Hi Margaret

cyber Placebo: yes we can

Abacus Capalini: Bye all. :)

Heritage Key Session:

Jump to the Second Life Session

Scott Diener: Hello everyone, welcome to Educause 2009!

LT Heritage: yay!

Iggyo Heritage: Scott, you stylin' over there

Pavig Lok: ok i'll go round the grid and see if i can mop up strays

Scott Diener: http://www.educause.edu/groups/vw

Scott Diener: you can sign up for our listserve there

Iggyo Heritage: I'm getting pics for my blog, btw, Pharaoh

Scott Diener: and join the educause constituent group

Iggyo Heritage: got my call muted but I hear the voice feed from Denver

Mel Rachael: heyy

LT Heritage: I hear both live voice somewhere and someone else talking from somewhere else, simultaneously

Iggyo Heritage: anyone here yet who is not with Rezzable, other than Scott and me?

Scott Diener: Joe, you may have to type, as there is a feedback loop that gets going

Iggyo Heritage: my mic is muted

Scott Diener: my speakers are muted at the moment

Iggyo Heritage: I'm not getting the feedback loop--from Denver?

Scott Diener: you would if I turned on my speakers

LT Heritage: ok- I think I'm just hearing you twice, once on lag

LT Heritage: I'm in both worlds... heh

Iggyo Heritage: that's it...I've not spoken for a few minutes

Iggyo Heritage: and the lag was enormous

Chimera Cosmos: Thanks Pavig! I was lost LOL

Iggyo Heritage: nearly 2 minutes

Iggyo Heritage: Hi Chimera

Iggyo Heritage: welcome to HK :)

Iggyo Heritage: remember "Barney Miller" from the 70s? I'm Ron Glass' twin :)

Chimera Cosmos: is there a stream here?

Chimera Cosmos: video?

LT Heritage: should be audio

LT Heritage: lol, Iggy... I was thinking of a local sportscaster when he was made

Lokum Shilova: In the bottom right of your screen, there's a small music note with a Play button next to it - press the play button to listen in!

Chimera Cosmos: I hear audio, but it might be in a browser tab I can't find LOL

Chimera Cosmos: heard sound over in the Valley of the Kings too, so if that's not possible...

Iggyo Heritage: I've got another computer running SL

Iggyo Heritage: and I see the vid stream from Denver there

LT Heritage: ok, yeah, me too- now watching video there and listening here

Mel Rachael: :)

Mel Rachael: :P

Iggyo Heritage: thanks Scott

Scott Diener: :-)

Iggyo Heritage: I think I DID have two audio streams going

Iggyo Heritage: LOL

Iggyo Heritage: I'm now listening via Skype only, not HK

LT Heritage: I'm listening via HK and it sounds fine

Mel Rachael: nice top lokum

Scott Diener: could everyone type in where you are in the world?

Lokum Shilova: :) thk you

Lokum Shilova: London

Mel Rachael: np :P

Mel Rachael: wher u egt it?

LT Heritage: Philadelphia

Iggyo Heritage: Richmond, Ol' Virginny

Chimera Cosmos: was watching M Linden in Chilbo in SL too...brain is split LOL

Lokum Shilova: same here

Chimera Cosmos: :-)

Mel Rachael: ty lokum :P

Lokum Shilova: np at all

Mel Rachael: wher u get the red 1 2?

Iggyo Heritage: vid feed from Denver into SL is spotty

Iggyo Heritage: breaks up a lot

Eagle Heritage: Colorado

Pavig Lok: melbourne australia

LT Heritage: mel, those things will be available in about a month or so

Mel Rachael: ty anymor or not ? :P

Lokum Shilova: I hear perfect so far good

Lokum Shilova: sure :)

Mel Rachael: ty

Scott Diener: you can also watch the video at the following address (quicktime)

Mel Rachael: ty

Scott Diener: rtsp://qss.clemson.edu/Suzie.sdp

Look upon my works

Iggyo Heritage: thanks, Scott--I hate rolling across the room constantly

Scott Diener: okay, I will point it out

Scott Diener: Winks at Eagle...:-)

Eagle Heritage: ;-)

Iggyo Heritage: got the streaming QT feed now great at the URL you gave

Scott Diener: what is the twitter account for Heritage Key?

Iggyo Heritage: I'll share this URL with the SL crowd now

Lokum Shilova: #educause09vwcg we are using this hashtag as you do Heritagekey

Mel Rachael: hey nearly every1 is sittin down :P

Lokum Shilova: and we have got 4 other sims 50+ more seats yeahhhh

Mel Rachael: hehe lol

Iggyo Heritage: heh...AJ is plugging HK while claiming he's not :D

Lokum Shilova: :D

Mel Rachael: :P

Scott Diener: plugging is good!

Scott Diener: lol

Iggyo Heritage: worlds just collided...I see a Richmond colleague at Denver on the QT stream :D

Eagle Heritage: chuckles

Scott Diener: awesome Joe....small world(s)

Mel Rachael: dus any1 no wen the stone henge wil b on here?

Iggyo Heritage: I cannot wait for it

Mel Rachael: ino wen is it?

Iggyo Heritage shrugs

Mel Rachael: kk :)

Chimera Cosmos: do we have chatbridge from SL to Heritage Key? heheh

Scott Diener: hahah...not yet...but that will come with hypergrids....

Pavig Lok: they're typin a lot

Pavig Lok: we _could_ set such a thing up but didn't quite have the lead time and devs around in time to set it up for today

Pavig Lok: ... but a chat bridge that works between sims in sl would work also to link sl and opensim

Mel Rachael: btw r these seats usually here? :S

Iggyo Heritage: you know--first company to figure out how to host avatars for hypergrids, with IP-vetted inventory, and not host grids, will get VERY rich fast

Iggyo Heritage: AJ's on his subversive part now...SL is the AOL of VWs :D

Mel Rachael: ur hair is so nice lokum :P

Lokum Shilova: heheheh ermmm kk

Scott Diener: so is mine!

Mel Rachael: :D

Iggyo Heritage: I like my 'stache

Lokum Shilova: has it rezzed already :P

Eagle Heritage: chuckles

Pavig Lok: does anyone have a question they want relayed to the speakers in sl?

Iggyo Heritage: here comes Viv :)

Mel Rachael: yer

Eagle Heritage: yes, How many stars are in the sky over our head here in Heritage Key?

Iggyo Heritage: bunches

Scott Diener: chuckles...

Mel Rachael: im not countin lol

Iggyo Heritage: oodles

Eagle Heritage: heehee

Scott Diener: type in any questions you have...I will direct them to the group

Mel Rachael: ty lokum :P

Iggyo Heritage: Yeah, Pavig.. my Q is "what will it take for their faculty to try a VW in a class, like I've been doing for 2 years?"

Iggyo Heritage: jeez 150 million bucks. Glad LL didn't rely on my spending :)

Scott Diener: I spent that much on clothes

Eagle Heritage: laughs

Iggyo Heritage: Seriously, I have spent about $50 on content for our House of Usher build

Iggyo Heritage: and we paid a scripter for some content

Iggyo Heritage: another $100

Chimera Cosmos: What room are you in at Educause/Denver?

Chimera!

Chimera Cosmos: Gentle Heron is there and didn't know about this meeting

Chimera Cosmos: talking w/her at Metanomics in SL

Chimera Cosmos: "boooommmm" sound of my brain exploding!

Chimera Cosmos: Viv! Viv is here!

Viv Trafalgar: XD hiya!

Chimera Cosmos: :-)

Viv Trafalgar: Nooo Iggy is ours nao!

Scott Diener: the group is saying that students tend to find SL to be low-tech compared to other 3D games

Scott Diener: and that teaching staff find the learning curve to me too much

Iggyo Heritage: All my iggies are belong 2 u

Scott Diener: the scripting also requires a lot of support, so teaching staff can't always get their ideas realised

LT Heritage: the kids rated Steamfish "better than they thought it would be" ;)

Scott Diener: technical support also is needed for things like voice/audio/video

Viv Trafalgar: Yes Scott, there's a lot that infrastructure can to to mediate impressions like the one you experienced.

LT Heritage: thank goodness! Prad is here!

Iggyo Heritage: once they get on Desktop systems, and laptops not on wireless, they could see how well both SL and HK work

Prad Heritage: He is?

LT Heritage: :)

Iggyo Heritage: My class is doing what may be the first project in HK, to my knowledge

LT Heritage: or a wold in Prad's clothing

Lokum Shilova: no digging here Prad

Scott Diener: group thinks that having other educators to talk to who use these worlds is invaluable

Viv Trafalgar: I think it is Iggy - and an important one

Viv Trafalgar: I participate on SLED

Iggyo Heritage: they want more customization options here, but they love the content

Chimera Cosmos: Viv, did you do any of the work here?

Chimera Cosmos: can we send out snapshots by email from here?

Viv Trafalgar: Not in HK Chi, but in an educational game called Steamfish that just launched

Viv Trafalgar: you'll hear more about that soon

Chimera Cosmos: cool!

Viv Trafalgar: and I'm starting to do some work in HK

LT Heritage: snapshots to postcard email does not work in this viewer

Chimera Cosmos: can we go there from HK website?

Chimera Cosmos: or where?

Iggyo Heritage: Viv is helping with House of Usher in SL--going great work for my uni

Chimera Cosmos: Rezzable?

Chimera Cosmos: yay!

Chimera Cosmos: we need more creepy content heheh

LT Heritage: Steamfish is not open to the public, yet

Chimera Cosmos: phooey then :-)

Iggyo Heritage: yes?

Scott Diener: joe, please type into the text chat what you wanted to share about your class now?

Chimera Cosmos: I did the beta test here with Bettina

Viv Trafalgar: ah no it's way cool - YTouring, which has worked with Rezzable to include machinima in theater performances with schools

Chimera Cosmos: long time ago

Scott Diener: and everyone else please hold on chat while he is

Viv Trafalgar: is using Steamfish as an extension of the message

Iggyo Heritage: Okay, I'll type it here

Iggyo Heritage: ouch--some feedback there

Scott Diener: yes...feedback in SL

Chimera Cosmos: not for me--sound is fine

Iggyo Heritage: go figure

Chimera Cosmos: is this streamed to the web too?

Chimera Cosmos: some chance I'm getting sound from a website and can't find the tab LOL

Prad Heritage: yup

Iggyo Heritage: okies, I'll hold off for a sec

Iggyo Heritage: :)

Chimera Cosmos: can they see our Heritage Key chat?

Pavig Lok: ok the tab will be on the bottom right of your screen with little musical notes on it

Scott Diener: yes

Chimera Cosmos: ah

Iggyo Heritage: @Chimera, soon yes

Chimera Cosmos: then I'm def listening to a web stream

Iggyo Heritage: AJ's gonna blow up the chat win

Chimera Cosmos: have to find that tab before I switch!

Chimera closeup

Scott Diener: we are working to get audio questions from SL....

Iggyo Heritage: AJ's doing a great job in spite of all this

Iggyo Heritage: thanks, Scott

Scott Diener: we have a computer talking .... and stuttering

Scott Diener: lol

Iggyo Heritage: LOL

Lokum Shilova: hahahah

Scott Diener: Joe, please go ahead and share in chat your experience with teachingn in HK...

Iggyo Heritage: okay

Iggyo Heritage: I beta tested here
Iggyo Heritage: and decided to pick ONE part of HK
Iggyo Heritage: for a writing project
Iggyo Heritage: it's at: http://iggyssyllabus.pbworks.com/Saving-Isis
Iggyo Heritage: as I saw the room of murals
Iggyo Heritage: I thought about how Carter, with today's tools
Iggyo Heritage: might have not destroyed the mural of Isis
Iggyo Heritage: so I challenged the students
Iggyo Heritage: to come up with a multi-disciplinary solution
Iggyo Heritage: to the problem, as if they were Howard Carter
Iggyo Heritage: and blog that
Iggyo Heritage: they had to first do a tourist's tour of HK
Iggyo Heritage: this revealed
Iggyo Heritage: some technical probs
Iggyo Heritage: and also showed us about students :)
Iggyo Heritage: they want to use laptops and wireless for everything here
Iggyo Heritage: and both HK and SL suffer when you do that
Iggyo Heritage: it is, however, the salient Q in my opinion for VW developers who
Iggyo Heritage: want to attract edu clients
Iggyo Heritage: they have to run on low-end tech and slower connections
Iggyo Heritage: or my students WON'T stay when the semester ends
Iggyo Heritage: retention from my first three classes
Iggyo Heritage: that used SL
Iggyo Heritage: is about 0%
Iggyo Heritage: period

[Mummy's Curse gets Iggyo and I crash briefly]

Iggyo Heritage: Iggy in DA HOUSE

Viv Trafalgar: wb!

Iggyo Heritage: it's the Mummy's Curse again

Iggyo Heritage: yeah, I got my applause

Scott Diener: excellent Iggy...lots of nodding going on here relative to what you said

Iggyo Heritage: one kid said yesterday "Not all of us can afford Alienware desktop systems"

Scott Diener: a good question here: Are Educators more excited about VW than students?

Iggyo Heritage: yep

Scott Diener: lol...that is what I am on now Iggy (*blush)

Pavig Lok: blackboard gives me hives

Viv Trafalgar: As a visiting fellow this fall, I have noticed a couple of students coming in on their own time

Chimera Cosmos: Intellagirl's students seem plenty excited

Iggyo Heritage: they either fear them (non gamers) or think the graphics are lame (gamers)

Viv Trafalgar: they are graphic design and design engineering students and are fascinated

Chimera Cosmos: suspect it is our "operator error" in not engaging students!

Iggyo Heritage: oh, mine are excited NOW

Iggyo Heritage: but it took doing. Most of them went to Burning Life and LOVED it

Chimera Cosmos: good job Igg

Iggyo Heritage: thanks Chimera

Chimera Cosmos: good concept

Scott Diener: how so Iggy? how has that change taken place, given your 0% revisit

Iggyo Heritage: this class is different

Iggyo Heritage: I used a lot of one-on-one

Chimera Cosmos: do they use most of what they learn in a class? content even? or even remember it?

Iggyo Heritage: and started them @ edu sites

Chimera Cosmos: not sure we should beat ourselves up too much LOL

Iggyo Heritage: then got them into the larger world

Iggyo Heritage: still, after the class ends, they won't be back

Chimera Cosmos: and they won't use their chemistry either heheh

Iggyo Heritage: my students are 18-22, beautiful, mostly rich kids

Iggyo Heritage: they don't need avatars

Scott Diener: hahah

Iggyo Heritage: they live live like them already

Viv Trafalgar: what is the timeline you're evaluating on Iggy?

Chimera Cosmos: ours too - Wash U is kind of preppy in a midwest sort of way

Iggyo Heritage: but they get the idea of simulation for what they cannot do IRL

Scott Diener: getting ready to wrap this up...any last questions anyone wants to ask?

Iggyo Heritage: and *that* excites them

Viv Trafalgar: That's huge, actually

Scott Diener: (everyone is reading the chat, btw)

Iggyo Heritage: the Virtual Hallucinations sim at UC Davis was a show-stopper for them

Iggyo Heritage: that's okay--my students and I discussed this yesterday in class :)

Iggyo Heritage: I love them...they are lucky. And young.

Scott Diener: 17th of Nov Sl roundtable is being held in HK

Iggyo Heritage: @Viv--in terms of timeline? you mean for retention? If you mean for getting them to enjoy VWs--takes about a month

Iggyo Heritage: judging form this year and last fall

Iggyo Heritage: The few, the brave 14 :D

Viv Trafalgar: Thank you AJ!

Iggyo Heritage claps for AJ

Scott Diener: AJ says "Thanks!"

Chimera Cosmos: Yay! Say hi to the RL peeps!

Chimera Cosmos: Typist wishes she was there...

Iggyo Heritage wants a good steak from Denver

Scott Diener: I'll have one tonight and tell you how it was!

Lokum Shilova: ahhh no more food talk pass my dinner time

Viv Trafalgar: hee Lokum

Iggyo Heritage: open that packet of crisps, Lokum!

Lokum Shilova: its 9 pm in the office no lunch

Lokum Shilova: me starving

Mel Rachael: lol

LT Heritage: bah, you should charge them for delivery

Pavig Lok: mmm want food

Iggyo Heritage wants to be in London too...North Sea Fish Restaurant for fish & chips...not far from your offices

Iggyo Heritage: great fish

Lokum Shilova: kk great I cant eat anything fried makes me ill but I will take you to the restaurant Iggyo

Viv Trafalgar: oh boo. you need some good tikka masala Lokum, or curry

Iggyo Heritage: they can broil it I think

Lokum Shilova: Prad is talking about pizza

Iggyo Heritage: mmmmm Malabar Junction in London

Iggyo Heritage: I get to your town a lot

Lokum Shilova: :o and never come and visit us in the office

Iggyo Heritage: I will next time :D

Lokum Shilova: :)

Iggyo Heritage: didn't know y'all until this summer, and then I was in Yorkshire

Lokum Shilova: Yorkshire that must have been fun

Iggyo Heritage: oooh the Dales are great

Mel Rachael: yer

Iggyo Heritage: I hope the EDUCAUSE folks will consider other grids now

Iggyo Heritage: the future is multiple-grids

Scott Diener: yes...nods all around

Chimera Cosmos: Will any of that be on the Educause stream?

Chimera Cosmos: sorry - multitasking again :-)

Pavig Lok: that stuff won't take long - we've been developing a multi grid inventory solution. not far off a point when opensims will be a lot more like sl in that

Chimera Cosmos: VW stuff?

Iggyo Heritage: @Pavig, remember us little peeps when that makes you RICH

Chimera Cosmos waves to Olivia!

Chimera Cosmos: (shecan't see me probably) LOL

Iggyo Heritage waves to Olivia and says "Ron Glass is alive in Heritage Key"

Pavig Lok: if you get rich first iggy.. remmember me lol

Viv Trafalgar: yeah iggy!

Lokum Shilova: lol

Mel Rachael: gtg now ppl tlk l8r byee

Iggyo Heritage: heh--seriously. The first company to come up with an inter-grid inventory solution will be famous

Iggyo Heritage: tc Mel

Lokum Shilova: bye mel

Mel Rachael: byee

Scott Diener: we are Iggy

Scott Diener: we are each running inventory servers...but you carry inventory from one grid node to the next

Iggyo Heritage: get ready to be very wealthy, Scott...no kidding

Scott Diener: but if you build in a different node thatn your home node, the inventory stays there

Scott Diener: it does work...

Scott Diener: wealth would be appreciated....

Heritage Key: ok, one window less... ciao

Pavig Lok: yeah we got that too - works pretty well, though you arrive as ruth and have to dress again.. we haven't nailed that

Viv Trafalgar: ciao!

Eagle Heritage: Claps for Scott!

Lokum Shilova: wow thats great

Iggyo Heritage applauds Scott

Scott Diener: applauds everyone there....thanks for being inworld!!

Lokum Shilova: thks Scott and Iggyo

Iggyo Heritage: Has Rezzable announced the inventory product officially?

Viv Trafalgar: happy to be here - this is a great crossworlds meeting

Pavig Lok: the biggest problem with opensim still is everyones solving these problems individually... takes a while to wind them back into the core

Iggyo Heritage wants to scoop Hamlet Au on that one

Viv Trafalgar: ahahahaha

LT Heritage: what? lol...

Lokum Shilova: do we know if anyone else wanted to log in

Pavig Lok: nah i don't think so... we're just using it to manage our several grids

Lokum Shilova: but had problems

Scott Diener: Okay everyone, I am heading for lunch......:-)

Eagle Heritage: waves

LT Heritage: thanks scott

Iggyo Heritage: gotcha. Wait for Prokofy Neva to go wild when you announce it

Iggyo Heritage: she'll call you technocommies

Iggyo Heritage: :D

Lokum Shilova: hahahah you have seen the tshirt

LT Heritage: he does that when we rez a cube

Lokum Shilova: we got printed for Jon's birthday

Pavig Lok: prokofy is like advertising lol

Iggyo Heritage: heehee

Lokum Shilova: Prok has been quiet lately

Chimera Cosmos: crashed!

Pavig Lok: been buried in the linden forums which is why haven't seen him

Chimera Cosmos: just tweeted a snapshot of us in Heritage Key - see ldinstl_chimera - and I'm off to RL!

Iggyo Heritage: Prok just moved on to reply to every post at the LL blog

Chimera Cosmos: bye akk!

Lokum Shilova: :)

Chimera Cosmos: akk -> all

Chimera Cosmos: :-)

Chimera Cosmos: cya!

Iggyo Heritage: heehee Fred from Richmond is meeting AJ IRL :)

Iggyo Heritage waves at Fred

LT Heritage: ok- I have a walkthrough with Riker on stonehenge... I'm out too

Lokum Shilova: night everyone drags Prad out of the office for some food

Iggyo Heritage: cya Chimera

LT Heritage: thanks all, Iggy, Lokum :)

Iggyo Heritage: I'll log now too

Lokum Shilova: thks everyone

Pavig Lok: aieee yeah i'll join you for that then i gotta.... err stuff

Pavig Lok: but i desperately need to ake a coffee first

LT Heritage: ok-builder's grid

Iggyo Heritage: thanks to all of you--get food, Lokum!
